Description

Our fourth and final instalment of IN-Vested Interests is here for 2018! Find out how the global insurance markets work and the high-risk environments that they operate in with Bevan Killick, from Lloyd’s of London.

Bevan Killick - Bio

Bevan was Christchurch born, raised and educated and is a graduate of the University of Canterbury (Accounting and Management Science). He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Audit New Zealand in Wellington. After spending 12 years working in senior roles in the Lloyd’s of London insurance market, Bevan returned to Christchurch and quickly established a full time career as a professional director.

Bevan holds governance positions in a variety of sectors, including being on the board of Southern Response and the Public Trust. He served on the Audit Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute in London for over six years. In October 2013 he became the youngest ever President of the Canterbury Club.

In 2004 Bevan was granted the Freedom of the City of London and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of World Traders. In 2014 Bevan was recognised as a “World Class New Zealander” by the Kiwi Expat Association (“KEA”) and in 2015 was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Commerce, Manufacture and Arts (RSA).

Trading Competition 2018

Join us for our inaugural University of Canterbury Trading Competition! Trade leveraged FX and commodities on the CMC platform to make the highest returns over a month-long period.

Description

  • Compete individually or in pairs

  • Cash prizes of $2,000 and an all-expenses trip to visit a leading full-service financial services firm’s trading room are up for grabs

  • Learn how to navigate and fully utilise Bloomberg, to gain insights and vital financial information in the UC Trading Room

  • Learn important skills in financial research, foreign currencies, commodities, equity indices, leveraged trading and risk management

  • Tutorials, guidance and weekly-drop in sessions will be provided by industry experts, UC Business & Law and The Investment Society

Cryptocurrency Portfolio Competition 2018

Join us for our first ever Cryptocurrency Portfolio Competition! With cryptocurrencies rising in popularity and public awareness, it’s a key time for any investor to consider the potential in this fast-paced technology.

We are teaming up with Cryptopia to bring a stock portfolio style challenge to the world of cryptocurrencies. Compete against other members of the society for a share in $750 of prize money, or equivalent in your designated cryptocurrency.

Result Submission

The following steps must be completed by 5pm Sunday, 30th September 2018. Any results submitted after this time will not be considered for prizes.

Step 1: Login
Login to your Cryptopia account. Visit the balances page.

Step 2: Screenshot the Balances page.
Take a screenshot of the balances page, similar to the image shown below. Your account name and BTC balance must be clearly visible in the screenshot.

Step 3: Save trade history
Visit the Trade History section. Adjust the number of entries visible to 25,000. Save a complete copy of your trade history to a CSV file. See the image below for details.

Step 4: Submit
Send your Balance screenshot and Trade History CSV file to cryptocomp@ucinvestmentsociety.com by 5pm, Saturday 29th September 2018.

Step 5: Complete!
Winners will be announced on Monday, 1st October 2018.

Stock Portfolio Competition 2018

Our member favourite Stock Portfolio Challenge is about to begin for 2018! Make sure you get involved early to give yourself the best chance of winning our prizes!

What is it?
Buy and sell virtual shares in 200 nominated companies on the ASX, simulating real trading through real time stock prices and brokerage fees.

What can I win?
We are stoked to have Craigs Investment Partners on board sponsoring our first place prize of a $1000 trading account. We will also have spot prizes as the competition progresses, make sure you have liked us on Facebook to be on the lookout for these!

Registration

Step 1 - Register for MyASX
Head to the ASX website (www.asx.com.au) If you are already registered with MyASX, click "Login to MyASX" (top right on the ASX homepage), add your username and password and login. If you haven't registered before, simply click the "Register" button; fill in your details and register. Once you have confirmed your registration via an email link sent to your inbox, login to MyASX.

Step 2 - Complete Game Registration
Once you have logged into MyASX - go to the MyASX home page and select the ASX Sharemarket Game. Complete your Game registration by choosing a player name and filling in other essentials for the Game. You will then be registered for the ASX Sharemarket Game.

Step 3 - Join the League!
Under the "Game play" menu, select "Leagues" and then "Join leagues".
